Xanthan Gum
High-molecular-weight polysaccharide hydrocolloid for oilfield viscosity control and food texture stabilization. Multiple grades, mesh sizes, and dispersibility options.
Overview
Xanthan gum is a high-molecular-weight polysaccharide produced via controlled fermentation of carbohydrates by Xanthomonas campestris. Five Rivers Materials supplies xanthan gum at container scale across both food and oilfield applications, with multiple grades, mesh sizes, and dispersibility options sourced from qualified production partners in India and China.
The product is shear-thinning under stress and recovers viscosity at rest — a property that makes it equally valuable as a drilling-fluid viscosifier (where it must flow through bit jets but stabilize cuttings at low shear) and as a food-texture modifier (where it must pour from a bottle but maintain suspension on a plate). All grades meet the relevant purity and regulatory benchmarks for their intended use, with food-grade material certified to FCC standards and oilfield-grade material formulated for use in clear-brine and high-salinity environments.
Technical Specifications
Variants & Forms
Dispersible Grade
Pre-treated for rapid hydration in cold water without lumping. Preferred for high-throughput industrial mixing and continuous-process formulation lines.
Non-Dispersible Grade
Standard hydration profile. Preferred where dispersibility additives are not required by formulation, or where in-process shear is sufficient.
