Guar Gum
Galactomannan polysaccharide derived from guar seed. Premium thickening and gelling agent for oilfield fracturing fluids and industrial food formulations.
Overview
Guar gum is a galactomannan polysaccharide derived from the endosperm of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba — the guar bean — cultivated predominantly in the arid regions of Rajasthan and Gujarat in India. Five Rivers Materials sources guar directly from qualified Indian processors, with both fast-hydrating (treated) and standard-hydrating variants available across food and industrial grades.
In oilfield use, guar is the dominant gelling agent for hydraulic fracturing fluids — crosslinked with borate or zirconate to develop the proppant-carrying viscosity required at fracture depth. In food applications, guar serves as a clean-label thickener prized for cold-water solubility and synergy with other hydrocolloids. All food-grade material is FCC compliant and certified per buyer requirements.
Technical Specifications
Variants & Forms
Fast-Hydrating
Surface-treated for rapid viscosity development in cold water. Preferred for slickwater frac operations and continuous-process food formulations.
Standard-Hydrating
Untreated guar powder with conventional hydration profile. Cost-effective for applications with sufficient mix time.
